विना दर्भेण यत्स्ननाम् यच्चदानं विनोदकं।
असन्ख्यातं च यज्जाप्यं तत्सर्वं निष्फलं भवेत्।
अर्थात जो पूजा, पाठ, साधना, तप, यज्ञ और दान बिना कुशा/दर्भ के किए जाते हैं, वे निष्फल होते हैं । जैसे बिना गणना के जप करना व्यर्थ होता है।
यह श्लोक महाभारत से लिया गया है, जिसमें कहा गया है कि ब्रह्मा कुशा/दर्भ घास की जड़ में निवास करते हैं । भगवान विष्णु दर्भ के शरीर में और भगवान महादेव उमानाथ दर्भ के शीर्ष पर निवास करते हैं।
विना दर्भेण यत्कर्म विना सूत्रेण वापुनः।
रक्षसां तद्भवेत्सर्वं नामुत्रेह् फल प्रदम।।
यह श्लोक कहता है कि बिना कुशा और यज्ञोपवीत (जनेऊ) के किए गए सभी कर्म राक्षसी माने जाते हैं । वे इस लोक में कोई फल नहीं देते।
विना तिलक दर्भाभ्यां कुर्यात्त तत निष्फलं भवेत्।
पद्मोत्तरखंड में कहा गया है कि बिना कुशा और तिलक के सभी कर्म (पूजा/साधना/यज्ञ/हवन) निष्फल हो जाते हैं।
सनातन शास्त्रों और ऋषियों ने कुशा को शुद्धता, समर्पण और आध्यात्मिक प्रगति के प्रतीक के रूप में महत्व दिया है। इसलिए, प्रत्येक हिंदू को कुशा या दर्भ घास प्राप्त करनी चाहिए । उसे घर में रखना चाहिए, ताकि सभी पूजा अनुष्ठानों, कुशा आसन और पवित्रता के लिए उसका उपयोग किया जा सके।
चंद्र ग्रहण और सूर्य ग्रहण के दौरान दर्भ घास का उपयोग अत्यंत शुभ माना जाता है। घर के मंदिर में दर्भ का टुकड़ा रखने से नकारात्मक ऊर्जा से सुरक्षा मिलती है। जैसे तुलसी के पत्ते भोजन में रखते हैं, वैसे दर्भ का भी महत्व होता है ग्रहण के समय।

Vina darbhena yatsnanam yachchadanam vinodakam,
Asankhyatam cha yajjapyam tatsarvam nishphalam bhavet.
This means that any worship, recitation, meditation, penance, yajna, and charity performed without Kusha/Darbha grass is fruitless, just as reciting a mantra without proper count is ineffective. This verse is from the Mahabharata, where it is stated that Brahma resides in the root of Kusha/Darbha grass, Lord Vishnu resides in the body of Darbha, and Lord Shiva (Uma Nath) resides at the top of Darbha.
Vina darbhena yatkarma vina sutrena vapunah,
Rakshasan tadbhavetsarvam namutreha phalapradam.
This verse says that all actions performed without Kusha and Yajnopavit (Sacred thread) are considered demonic and give no fruit in this world.
Vina tilak darbhabyam kuryat tat nishphalam bhavet.
The Padma Uttara Khand says that any action (worship, sadhana, yajna, havan) performed without Kusha and Tilak becomes fruitless.
