The Story of King Raghu:The First Vedic Application of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
Most notably, the story of King Raghu—son of Maharaja Dilip and an ancestor of Lord Shri Rama—is regarded as the first documented Vedic application of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra.
According to the legend, King Raghu’s marriage was fixed with Princess Shavya. However, her horoscope carried a severe Manglik and widowhood dosha. The moment King Raghu applied vermilion to her hair parting in the wedding ceremony, his life force instantly left his body, and he collapsed lifeless in the mandap.
At that moment, Sage Vashishtha, following the instructions of Lord Brahma, conducted a Mahapurashcharan of 3.3 million recitations of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. As a result, King Raghu was restored to life. This event is considered, within the Sanatan Vedic tradition, the first organized and complete application of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra.

Shukracharya, Ravana, and Raktabija
Daityaguru Shukracharya was a perfected master of the Mrityu Sanjeevani Vidya. Through this knowledge, he could revive fallen warriors on the battlefield. सनातन वैदिक परंपरा में महामृत्युंजय मंत्र को केवल एक मंत्र नहीं, बल्कि जीवन और मृत्यु के बीच सेतु माना गया है। वास्तव में, यह मंत्र रोग, भय, संकट और अकाल मृत्यु से रक्षा करने के साथ-साथ आत्मा को मोक्ष की ओर ले जाने वाली दिव्य चेतना है।

महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का अर्थ (संक्षिप्त भावार्थ)
भावार्थतः, यह मंत्र भगवान शिव से प्रार्थना करता है कि जिस प्रकार पक चुकी ककड़ी अपनी बेल से स्वतः मुक्त हो जाती है, उसी प्रकार साधक भी जीवन पूर्ण होने पर जन्म–मृत्यु के बंधन से मुक्त हो जाए।
साथ ही, यह मंत्र जीवन रहते रोग, कष्ट और भय से रक्षा की कामना करता है — मृत्यु की नहीं, जीवन की प्रार्थना करता है।
राजा रघु की कथा: महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का प्रथम वैदिक प्रयोग
विशेष रूप से उल्लेखनीय, भगवान श्रीराम के पूर्वज महाराज दिलीप के पुत्र राजा रघु की कथा महामृत्युंजय मंत्र के प्रथम प्रयोग का प्रमाण मानी जाती है।
कथा के अनुसार, राजा रघु का विवाह राजकुमारी शव्या से निश्चित हुआ था।
लेकिन, राजकुमारी की कुंडली में प्रबल मांगलिक और वैधव्य दोष था। जैसे ही, विवाह मंडप में राजा रघु ने शव्या की मांग में सिंदूर भरा, उसी क्षण उनके प्राण शरीर से निकल गए और वे वहीं गिर पड़े।
उस समय, गुरु वशिष्ठ ने ब्रह्मा जी के निर्देश पर 33 लाख महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का महापुरश्चरण कराया।परिणामस्वरूप, राजा रघु पुनः जीवित हो गए। इसी घटना को, वैदिक सनातन परंपरा में महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का प्रथम संगठित प्रयोग माना जाता है।
मार्कण्डेय ऋषि: मृत्यु को खाली हाथ लौटाने की कथा
इसी प्रकार, ऋषि मार्कण्डेय की आयु अल्प थी और मृत्यु निश्चित थी। किन्तु, उन्होंने बाल्यावस्था से ही महामृत्युंजय मंत्र की साधना प्रारंभ कर दी। जब यमराज उन्हें लेने आए, तब शिव स्वयं प्रकट हुए और यम को वापस लौटना पड़ा।
यह घटना, महामृत्युंजय मंत्र की सर्वाधिक प्रसिद्ध सिद्धि मानी जाती है।
शुक्राचार्य, रावण और रक्तबीज
दैत्यगुरु शुक्राचार्य मृत संजीवनी विद्या के सिद्ध साधक थे। इसी विद्या से, वे युद्ध में मृत सैनिकों को पुनर्जीवित कर देते थे। लंकापति रावण भी महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का साधक था। इसी शक्ति से, उसने अपने नौ सिर काटकर शिव को अर्पित किए और पुनः प्राप्त किए।
रक्तबीज को भी इसी विद्या से ऐसा वरदान मिला कि रक्त की प्रत्येक बूंद से नया शरीर उत्पन्न होता था।
महामृत्युंजय मंत्र महापुरश्चरण का विज्ञान
ऊर्जात्मक रूप से, यह साधना मूलाधार, मणिपुर, अनाहत और आज्ञा चक्र को सक्रिय करती है। इसके फलस्वरूप, कुंडलिनी जागरण और पंचतत्वों के साथ शिवतत्व का जागरण होता है।
